2013 NASSAU COUNTY CLASS B PLAYOFF PREVIEW
CLASS B THREE TEAM BATTLE
The 2013 Nassau County Class B Playoffs features three of the top five teams in the competitive Conference ABC3. The teams have an impressive combined record of 26-6-1, and for the second straight year a league champion was decided in the last match of the season. Each school has a well balanced team with talent in each position.
1 Carle Place (First Round Bye)
Defending 2012 Nassau County Champion Carle Place, coached by Allen Foraker, earned a bye after going undefeated and winning the Conference Championship. The team went 11-0-0 in conference play including victories over both Class B playoff teams. Most notably, a 1-0 victory of Wheatley in the season finale to secure the title.

Carle Place's success begins in the back with a solid defense and outstanding goalkeeping. Senior goalie John Guzzo earned 12 shutouts this season with 58 saves. Senior Matt Carr led the defensive team that limited the opportunities against the Frogs which only allowed two goals all season.

The offensive unit earned a 3.2 goals per game average over the entire season. The team boosts five players with at least five goals for the season. Senior midfielder Dylan Klein will look to continue orchestrating the transition to offense in the post season and build on his 9 goals and 13 assists for the season. Senior forward Billy Chiappone will also need to be contained as he managed 10 goals and 9 assists this year.
2 Wheatley vs. 3 Oyster Bay
The semi-final match for Class B features two teams from last year's final four, Wheatley and Oyster Bay. Wheatley won the regular season matchup 4-2 and finished ahead of Oyster Bay in the conference standings but Oyster Bay finished the season strong and hopes to change things up in the playoffs. The two team's last playoff meeting was in 2011, which was a memorable one goal game.

Wheatley (9-2-0), coached by Steve Cadet, heads into the playoffs after a terrific regular season and third place conference finish. The team is lead by senior forward Brian DeLay who led Nassau County in scoring with 16 goals. DeLay's efforts along with his teammates will surely provide an exciting semi-final. Andrew Tripi, Matt Huhn and Ethan Bloomberg anchor the backline who look to build on the team's 4 shutouts from the regular season. Jacob Dinetz, 3 goals and 4 assists, and Brandon Cervone, 4 goals and 4 assist, hope to provide fire power from their mid-field positions as the Wildcats look to advance deep into the playoffs.

Oyster Bay (6-4-1), coached by Tim Brady, finished the season in fifth place winning four of their last six games. The team posted 3 shutouts this season behind goalies Dean Mylonas (78 saves) and Jerry Ochoa (22 saves). Junior Captain Thomas Carchietta led the defensive team and will look to continue the teams strong late season surge into the playoffs. The Baymen have a number of key players to go to on the offensive end with four players scoring at least three goals this season. Francis Kalombo-Ngoy had 6 goals and 4 assists, Arcel Kabongo-Ngoy had 4 goals and 4assists, and Jonathan Bardales had 5 goals and 4 assists. The trio will look to continue the good teamwork in the semi-final.

This season's Class B playoffs will be a thriller with all three teams coming off an outstanding regular season. Will Oyster Bay or Wheatley make it to the final? Can either team take down the top seeded and undefeated Carle Place? Or will Carle Place make it two in a row? The semi-final match will be played on October 30 at Hofstra University at 6:00pm. The final will be played on November 2 at Adelphi University at 3:30pm.
