2013 NASSAU COUNTY CLASS A PLAYOFF PREVIEW
The regular season has come to an end and twenty Class A teams have qualified for the Nassau County boys soccer playoffs. This tournament has never seemed so evenly matched. With four out-bracket games on Wednesday, October 23rd and eight first round matches starting on Friday, October 25th, the title is up for grabs. This year's survivor will have to navigate an impressive pool of teams to call themselves champions. Adelphi University will turn on the lights on November 6th and play host to the 2013 Nassau County Class A Boys Soccer Championship. Below is a preview of the first round match-ups:

#1 Wantagh (8-1-2 Conference A1) won the conference A1 title. They are led by senior tri-captains Lucas Neroda (9 shutouts), Joseph O'Halloran, and Patrick Quigley (3 goals, 3 assists). Jonathan Alter (8 goals, 3 assist) and Chris Taibi help pace the offense. The Warriors will host the winner of #16 Clarke (5-5-1 A3) or #17 Manhasset (4-4-3 A2). Clarke is led by seniors Efrain Cruz who led Class A with 14 goals and Jose Hernandez (5 assists). Manhasset has 10 different players who have scored goals this season.

#2 Lawrence (8-1-2 A2) won the conference A2 title. They are led by senior Daniel Reiskin (10 goals, 8 assists) and junior Francisco Quintanilla (10 goals). The Tornadoes will host the winner of #18 Lynbrook (4-4-3 A2) or #15 Hewlett (4-4-3 A1). Lynbrook has 11 different players who have scored goals this season and has keeper Patrick Doody who has 6 shutouts this season.. Hewlett is led by seniors Zach Metz (7 shutouts) and Kelvin Larios (4 goals).

#3 Garden City (7-2-2 A1) is led by seniors Reid Bonivissuto (4 goals) and Jack Gillian (3 goals). Goalkeepr Ray Leto heads a stingy Garden City defense. The Trojans will host the winner of #14 Floral Park (5-5-1 A2) or #19 Seaford (4-6-1 ABC3). Floral Park is led by senior Antonio Fleming and sophomores Kyle Darden (5 goals) and Matthew Sawicki (4 goals). Seaford is led by seniors Matt Murphy (5 goals) and Jon Rich (3 goals). Seniors goalkeepers Rich Diodati and Adam Doninger help on defense.

#4 South Side (7-2-2) is led on defense by senior goalkeeper Thomas Germano (6 shutouts) and the offense is led by junior Alessandro Pugliese (7 goals, 3 assists) and seniors Chuck Leone and Jack McKenna who have each scored 5 goals. The Cyclones will host #13 Sewanhaka (4-3-4 A1) or #20 West Hempstead (3-7-1 ABC3). Sewanhaka is led by senior goalkeeper Mustafa Byrum (84 saves, 5 shutouts). The offense has 9 players who have scored goals this season, led by Luis Chaverra (4 goals) and Christian Torres (3 goals). West Hempstead is led by Fabrico Barbosa (6 goals), Robert Grogan (3 goals), and seniors Woodie Cheu and Julio Leonardo who both netted a pair of goals this season.

#5 Bethpage (7-3-1 A2) will host #12 Island Trees (5-5-3 A2). Bethpage is led by seniors Piero Nickmannino (7 goals), Nick Christensen (6 goals), Steve Nani (4 goals), and Sam Romano (6 assists). Island Trees is led by senior Adonis Martinez (4 goals, 7 assists) juniors Ryan Willoughby (9 goals, 6 assists) and Dylan Cramner (4 goals, 3 assists). Island Trees won 1-0 when the teams met in the regular season on October 11th.

#6 Great Neck North (7-3-1 A2) will host #11 Roslyn (6-2-3 A2). Great Neck North is led by junior Nicholas Reisgerzog (6 goals, 4 assists), sophomore Nicholas Garzon (5 goals, 4 assists). Great Neck North has 13 different players who have scored goals this season. Roslyn is led by senior Brandon Freidman (13 goals, 3 assists), juniors Zachary Moskowitz (6 goals) and Nick Markman (4 goals). The teams played to a 1-1 draw over a month ago on September 20th.

#7 Jericho (7-4-0 A1) will look to make it a third straight Nassau County title when they host #10 Valley Stream North (6-2-3 A2). Jericho is led by seniors Reed Ginsberg (8 shutouts), Drew Shuman (6 goals), and Michael Blumberg (3 goals, 2 assists). Jon Amodio, Robert Busam, David Greenbaum have each scored a pair of goals. Valley Stream North is led by seniors Roody Derineau (13 goals) and Quentin Sathasivam (6 goals, 3 assists).

#8 Cold Spring Harbor (7-3-1 ABC3) will host #9 Bellmore JFK (6-2-3 A1). Cold Spring Harbor is led by senior Riley Cassidy (7 goals, 7 assists) and Mike Terracciano (5 goals, 3 assists). Freshman Jamie Schubauer has netted 6 goals and junior Ryan Winkoff added 6 assists. Bellmore JFK has conceded goals to just two teams in conference A1. Junior goalkeeper Jake Silverman has recorded 9 shutouts and senior Hunter Brodman leads the team with 4 goals. 11 different players have recorded points for Bellmore JFK this season.

The 2013 Nassau County Class A Tournament features some great teams, exceptional players, and some intriguing first round match-ups. This year's tournament will clearly produce a true champion, one worthy to represent Nassau County.
